What to Expect
Whether you’ve never picked up a saw or you’ve tackled a few home projects before, this one-of-a-kind 6-week course will give you the hands-on skills to take your woodworking and DIY confidence to the next level and gives you 30 hours of membership in the Workshop to use outside of class time to work on honing your skills while building something cool. This comprehensive class combines traditional woodworking with real-world home improvement applications in a welcoming, beginner-friendly setting. The curriculum builds each week as you dive into learning skills that, when developed early, can lead to less frustration and waste.
Each week, you'll get expert instruction, plenty of guided practice, and a chance to create tangible projects you’ll actually use — from a custom cutting board or keepsake box to learning the foundational techniques behind installing your own deck, porch, or simple home upgrade.
What You'll Learn:
Week 1 – Welcome to the Workshop: Tools, Safety & Measuring Like a Pro Learn how to safely navigate a real woodshop, handle tools correctly, and measure accurately every time. Walk away with your first mini-project.
Week 2 – The Power of Precision: Mastering the Miter & Table Saw Discover how to make clean, accurate cuts using the miter saw and table saw — essential skills for everything from building a deck to crafting a picture frame. Practice by building your own perfectly square box frame.
Week 3 – Wood 101: Choosing the Right Wood & Designing with Purpose Understand the difference between hardwood and softwood, how to buy straight boards at the lumberyard, and how to design a simple project from scratch.
Week 4 – Curves, Detail & Creativity: Bandsaw, Scroll Saw & Shaping Explore creative cuts with the bandsaw and scroll saw — ideal for custom shaping, fine details, and working on tricky cuts.
Week 5 – Strong Joints Made Simple: Domino, Pocket Hole & Joinery Techniques Discover how to make strong, clean joints for furniture or home improvement projects using the Festool Domino, pocket holes, and classic glue-and-screw techniques. Perfect for future porch railings or simple shelves.
Week 6 – Assembly & Finish: Bringing It All Together Finish your project with confidence! Learn how to sand like a pro, fix mistakes, and walk away with a completed piece you're proud of.
Bonus: Real-World Home Improvement Know-How
Throughout the course, we’ll weave in practical applications for your new skills — like how to safely and correctly install a small deck, build a porch landing, or take on simple repairs around the house. You’ll acquire the skills — and confidence — to start real projects in your own home.
No experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity — we’ll supply the tools, materials, and expert guidance.
Space is limited — reserve your spot today and start building the skills (and the projects!) you’ve always wanted to try.
